Horn News Agency for Human Rights (HANAHR) had an exclusive interview with prominent Somali MP Dahir Amin Jesow (DAJ)

HANAHR: First of all, can you please tell us about your position and role in politics ?

DAJ: I serve the people, if you hear MP, he or she represents the people.

HANAHR: Can you describe to us the human rights violations in Somalia in general and in Jubaland region of Somalia in particular ?

DAJ: Concerning human rights violations; Somalia is a country that has been in chaos or out of law and order for quite long time and it is always possible for human rights violations to take place.

In Kismayo (Jubaland temporary capital); there are human rights violations as suppression goes on and war crimes and Somalia government is too weak to handle the Jubaland case, as there is a foreign intervention that is driving the whole human rights violations taking place in Kismayo.

Kenya government is supporting the perpetual massacre perpetrators in Kismayo, and me as a member of the parliament of Somalia, share the international community its position, as everything in Jubaland is clear to the international community.

HANAHR: Can Somalia government prosecute the perpetrators of the war crimes and the human rights violations taking place inside Somalia ?

DAJ: Somalia government is too weak and can’t deal with such situation

HANAHR: As a members of the parliament, can you ask the International criminal court to unleash criminal investigation against warlords in Somalia e.g. Sheikh Ahmed Madoobe for crimes against humanity, war crimes, extra judicial and summery killings ?

DAJ: The ICC knows its job better and does not require a request from any parliament members, because the ICC has observers and investigators on the ground whom the ICC relays on when it comes to unleashing international inquiry into possible war crimes in Somalia, but it is for sure on days the painful events will surface. Our parliament has voted for a resolution on 06.06..2015 with 142 MPs in favor of the resolution concerning the situation in Jubaland and making the Jubaland administration as null and void or invalid to legally function. The parliament does not request but it makes decisions which must be fulfiled by the executive council e.g. the minsters. It is possible that we have diffculties in fulfiling it but one day when the law prevails accountability will come.

HANAHR: Can the general prosecutor of Somalia prosecute war crimes committed by the warlords of Somalia ?

DAJ: It would be appropriate, if you ask the general prosecutor himself this question, and i believe the general prosecutor knows the situation better and we trust him and satisfied with his work. Thanks

HANAHR: You are wellcome, Mr. Dahir Amin Jesow (Prominent Somali MP, and critic of many human rights violations taking place in many parties of Somalia)
